National Arts Contest Honors Crossroads Students

Musicians, designer recognized in YoungArts competition.
Six students from Crossroads School—including five musicians—received recognition for their artistic talents in a national competition that drew nearly 8,000 submissions.

Crossroads seniors Xavier Carr, Alec Schulman, Noah Simon and Ethan Treiman and juniors Anna Abondolo and Isaac Pross were among the roughly 690 students across the country who were honored by YoungArts in this year’s annual contest, which acknowledges promising high school artists in literary, visual, design and performing arts.

Selected by an independent panel of highly accomplished artists, winners in the nonprofit’s competition receive cash awards as well as mentorship, training, career guidance and opportunities to participate in YoungArts programs. The honorees are eligible to participate in YoungArts’ regional Los Angeles event, which is scheduled to be held March 28 through April 2.

Noah received honorable mention as a classical pianist, while Anna earned the same recognition for jazz double bass. Ethan garnered honorable mention for classical composition.

Alec (jazz) and Isaac (classical) were selected for merit awards in composition. Xavier collected the merit honor for his work in design.
