Varsity Baseball beat Brentwood 4-3

Very exciting game on Wednesday in the team’s first league game with a 4-3 victory versus cross town rival Brentwood. We knew it would be a tough game as Brentwood was 4-0 on the season and had only given up a total of 4 runs in their first 4 games. But Jeremy was outstanding on the mound and was the MaxPreps player of the game pitching 6 2/3 innings and securing his first win of the season. Max came in and got his second save of the season by getting the last batter to fly out to Jake who made a nice leaping catch with the tying run on 2nd base to secure the victory. Jeremy struck out 7 and held Brentwood’s offense to 3 runs. The defense played very well behind Jeremy including Declan making an amazing laying out catch in Left field, Myles running a football field to somehow catch a long fly ball in Left/Center, Khalfani making a very nice play deep in the hole at Shortstop and then the play of the game in the top of the 7th Inning, when Gus took a throw from Jake and threw a perfect strike to home where Andrew put a quick tag on to just get the Brentwood runner trying to score, which would have tied the game.

On offense the team seemed to hit the ball right at the Brentwood defense. The team only struck once in the game, but Brentwood’s defense and particularly there Centerfielder made the plays and kept our offense from breaking open the game. Jeremy led the offense with 2 hits while also scoring 2 runs including the big 4th run in the bottom of the 6th to give us the lead for good. Myles laced the ball all 3 times and it was Myles lead-off walk, stolen base and then scoring on a wild pitch in the bottom of the first to give us an early 1-0 lead. After Brentwood scored 3 runs, it was Ben who got another big hit for the team to score Jeremey to pull within 1 run. Then Declan came up next and singled in Khalfani (who Brentwood intentionally walked twice) to tie the game 3-3. In the bottom of the 6th with the game tied 3 to 3, Andrew drew a bases loaded walk scoring Jeremy to put the team ahead 4 to 3, which was enough to get the team its 7th straight win to start the season. Brentwood will be looking for revenge on Friday as we visit their field.
