Morgan Schwartz Retiring After 32 Years at Crossroads

Doug Thompson to serve as interim assistant head of school and dean of faculty.
After 32 years at Crossroads, including a recent stint as assistant head of school and dean of faculty, Morgan Schwartz has announced his retirement.

Throughout his career, Morgan has worked closely with students and parents as well as alumni, faculty and staff while using his leadership skills and warm personality to contribute to Crossroads’ culture of innovation, activism and academic excellence.

In retirement, Morgan plans to spend more time with his wife Kris—who worked for 15 years at Crossroads as director of college guidance—and pursue his interests in natural history and photography.

“I am incredibly proud of Crossroads School and have absolutely loved working here for the past 32 years,” he says. “Thank you to everyone who has contributed, in one way or another, to my one-of-a-kind experience at this School—I am truly grateful.”

Morgan, who began his Crossroads career in 1986 as a chemistry and geology teacher in the Upper School, also coached boys and girls tennis before moving to the Middle School a few years later as the assistant director. He then served a 17-year stint as the Middle School director—including one year as interim Upper School director—until taking on his current role in senior leadership.

Starting Aug. 1, Doug Thompson—who served from 1993 to 2002 as assistant head of school and dean of faculty at Crossroads—will take his former position on an interim basis as Crossroads searches for Morgan’s long-term successor. Doug is the former head of school at Mid-Peninsula High School in Menlo Park, a position he held from 2002 until his retirement in 2017.

“Having worked closely with Doug when he was both dean of students and assistant headmaster and dean of faculty, I can’t think of a more qualified person to take on the role for a year,” Head of School Bob Riddle says. “I’m very excited to work with him again.”
