Team Red Faces Brentwood

The first ten minutes of the match looked like the Red Team hadn't fully returned from the holiday break, with a sluggish start.  An early headed goal from a Brentwood corner kick seemed to do the trick to snap the Roadrunners back into focus.  20 minutes into the first half Jasper Marcum took a corner and aimed straight for goal hitting a fire cracker hard and low that would flare off the front post defender into the goal.  This leveled the scoreline at 1 -1.  Before the halftime whistle could sound, Brentwood scored the go ahead goal off a counter attack down the right side.

Brentwood was the stronger and faster team on the day, but the Red Team didn't let that discourage them from rising to the challenge Brentwood presented.  In fact, the second half started with an immediate threat from forward Alex Biederman who had a close range shot saved by the Brentwood keeper.

Brentwood wouldn't let too much time pass before they took a 2 goal lead with 20 minutes to go in the game.  A stand out performance came from right winger Charlie Nicholas who, was seen sprinting up and down the right wing disrupting Brentwood's possession and threatening their defensive third.  Nicholas' spirit was matched by his teammate on the opposite side of the field, Luca Ferrario.  Ferrario provided much needed spirit in the final ten minutes to keep the game closer than the final score reflected.

With 13 minutes to go, the midfield provided a pass into the penalty area, where Alex Biederman brought the Red Team back to striking distance with a goal, making the score 3 - 2 Brentwood.   With a little more luck, it appeared that the Red team was due for a third goal.  As the match reached its final stages the Red Team began to fade.  Goal Keeper, Elijiah Solow-Ohashi was the last remaining source of energy making numerous saves to keep the hope alive.  He was even forced off his line to make a save when a Brentwood attacker collided with Solow-Ohashi.  No foul was awarded, but the keepers courage and strength showed that the Red Team still had some fight left in the tank.

Brentwood went on to score one more goal in the closing minutes to conclude the game at a 4 - 2 final.  Being the first lose of the season, the team took it deeply to heart but will get a chance to redeem themselves the following day against Windward.
