Peter Diamandis Talk Brings Future Into Focus

The ways people live, learn, interact and get around are going to change dramatically—and soon.
Members of the Crossroads community were captivated by the extraordinary innovations outlined by entrepreneur Peter Diamandis during his Nov. 29 presentation in the Community Room, where he shared insights into how exponential technologies will transform the world in the not-too-distant future.
Peter is the founder and executive chairman of the XPRIZE Foundation, a nonprofit that promotes technological advancements for the greater good in areas such as water access, education, ocean discovery and beyond. A current Crossroads parent, he is also the executive founder and director of Singularity University.
Contrary to what negative news reports suggest, Peter said, society is better off than perhaps ever before. Life expectancy figures and literacy rates, for example, are at all-time highs, while poverty levels and infant mortality rates have dipped to historic lows.
In the coming decades, he envisions potentially life-changing developments in transportation, health, medicine, energy, communications and artificial intelligence.
What’s not going to change, he said, is society’s desire for human connection. People’s yearning to build relationships with one another will remain strong regardless of how technology advances.
Peter said he believes the future world will place a premium on skills such as creativity, curiosity and the ability to ask great questions.
