Science Building Architect Awarded Gold Medal from AIA-LA

The architect of Crossroads’ new science building, Frederick B. Fisher, was awarded the Gold Medal from the American Institute of Architects Los Angeles (AIA|LA).
Frederick B. Fisher, the architect of Crossroads’ new science building, has been named the 2013 Gold Medal recipient from the Los Angeles chapter of the American Institute of Architects. Fisher received the prestigious honor at the AIA/Los Angeles Design Awards Gala, held Oct. 28 at the Broad Stage in Santa Monica.

The Gold Medal is the highest honor awarded by the chapter and recognizes the long-term commitment and lasting impact of an architect to the profession and the city of Los Angeles. Fisher has been a practicing architect for more than three decades. His lifelong dedication to the arts and education has yielded a body of award-winning museums, galleries, academic studios and classroom buildings throughout the United States and abroad.

Slated to open in the summer of 2015, Crossroads’ Science Education & Research Facility will house the School’s Middle and Upper School science programs. The facility will promote innovative, interdisciplinary teaching and learning and include state-of-the-art laboratories and flexible spaces for both collaborative and independent research. The building itself will be a living laboratory that includes a Monarch butterfly habitat, which will become part of an international movement to help reverse the decline of the species.
