“Facing some of their stiffest competition to date in Geffen, Wildwood, Lighthouse, and New Roads; the Boys and Girls Middle School swim teams put up another outstanding effort at Thursday’s PBL Meet at Crossroads. The two squads posted a total of 56 season best swims out of the 116 total races on the day. Norah Hamilton, Jemma Handler, Kerron Jones, and Cali O’Donovan got things going for the girls team with a victory in the 100 Medley Relay. The four would combine later in the meet to win the 100 free relay as well. In between the two races N. Hamilton added a first place finish in her heat of the 25 backstroke with a 19.52 clip. Handler helped the Roadrunners to a sweep in the 25 Breaststroke event, winning her heat with a time of 19.15. Sarina Braun (24.12) and Sofie Szigeti (17.94) were also heat winners in the breaststroke. Jones, meanwhile helped the team to a sweep of the 25 freestyle event with her heat winning time of 15.13. Abby Borstein (17.21) and Oona Summerford-Ng (14.16) were also heat winners in the 25 free. Cali O’Donovan was a triple winner as well, adding a blue ribbon in her heat of the 50 freestyle with a time of 35.09. Hope Hamilton picked up an individual victory in the 25 butterfly (15.43) while Rowena Smith did the same in the 25 backstroke (16.35). Szigeti, Summerford-Ng, H. Hamilton, and Smith finished the day with a win in the 200 free relay. The boys team was just as impressive on the day. Kai Pringle (1:01.19) and Eamon Myatt (1:04.49) each posted lifetime best swims in the 100 free, as they finished 1st and 3rd respectively. The 100 free relay quartet of Jett Laiken, Jake Hirshberg, Abe Spector, and Lars Hereaus posted an impressive win in the 100 medley relay, while Myatt and Pringle were joined by Hugh Vandeweghe and Ben Klyce to win the 200 free relay. Other individual winners included Klyce(15.34) in the 25 butterfly, Laiken (19.99) and Vandeweghe (17.43), in their heats of the 25 backstroke, Hirshberg (18.29) and Owyn Strand (19.58) in their heats of the 25 breaststroke, Myatt (13.69) and Oliver Miller (16.96) in their heats of the 25 freestyle, and Pringle in the 50 free (26.93).”
