Aquatics

Our outdoor and heated pool is 40' x 75' (6 lanes across; 25 yards long) with overflow gutters. There is a large shallow step area. Our pool is designed primarily for instruction and student swim activities like competitive teams and conditioning. The depth of the pool ranges from 3' to 6' 7". No flotation devices are permitted.

Our Aquatics staff members are American Red Cross certified in Water Safety Instruction and/or Lifeguarding.

A variety of programming is available at our swim facility. 

Private Swim Lessons run April through October.

Wave Runners stroke development and advanced swim conditioning programs are available year round. Both programs are open to the public.

  • Wave Runners - SPRING SESSION, grades 2-12

    Wave Runners -SPRING SESSION, grades 2-12
    The spring session begins Wednesday, February 20, 2019 and runs through Wednesday, May 15, 2019.
    There are no practices on the following Crossroads non-school days:
    Saturday, March 23- Sunday, April 7, 2019. Restart sessions after Spring Break on Monday, April 8.
    Friday, April 19 and Saturday April 20, 2019

    Wave Runners Beginner Group: ages 10 and under
    Monday – Wednesday – Friday, 5-6 p.m.
    and Saturday, 9-10 a.m.
    Swimmers will develop and improve their skills in all four competitive strokes (freestyle, backstroke, butterfly, and breaststroke). They will learn important racing skills such as starts and turns. Our goal is to help students see themselves as athletes while maintaining primary focus on a fun, mechanically sound swimming experience.
    Ability to swim 25 yards of freestyle and 25 yards of backstroke or backstroke kick.

    Wave Runner Intermediate/Advanced Group: ages 9 and older
    Monday – Wednesday – Friday, 6-7:30 p.m. and
    Saturday, 8:30-10 a.m.
    Practices are designed to develop swimmers’ overall performance and dedication to the sport while simultaneously providing a fun and engaging team atmosphere. Our focus is on the continued development of individual’s competitive skills both in practice and at meets by setting goals, refining stroke mechanics and implementing a challenging workout regime.
     
    Ability to swim a minimum of 25 yards in all four racing strokes (Butterfly, Backstroke, Freestyle, Breaststroke). Swimmers will be placed in either intermediate or advanced levels based on overall ability.

  • Wave Runners -SUMMER SESSION, grades 2-12

    The summer session begins Wednesday, May 22, 2019 and runs through Saturday, July 27, 2019.

    Friday, July 5 and Saturday, July 6 for the 4th of July Holiday.

  • Aquatics Fun Camps, One-Week, grades 2-7

    Kids are provided the opportunity to learn and enhance their aquatics skills and fitness through a variety pool and dryland activities including swimming for fitness, stroke/swim race development, modified water polo, synchronized swimming and other pool games. Swimmers participate in pool practice and out of water activities. Swimmers are tested and grouped according to their skill level.
     
    Program participants, minimally, should be able to float on their back and stomach, go underwater comfortably and hold their breath for at least 10 seconds, and swim freestyle 25 yards and backstroke 10-15 yards.

  • Extended Care, grades 1-5

    In the morning children are supervised in an enclosed play area while waiting for morning programs to begin.
     
    In the afternoon, children enjoy inside activities like reading, games, and fort-building or outside playground activities like basketball, jump rope, or handball. Children of all ages gather together at this highly social time of the day and are supported and encouraged by our staff to develop friendships, resolve conflicts, and play or relax. A snack is provided, daily.

    School is closed Thursday, July 4 and Friday, July 5.

    The Summer at Crossroads 5-week session ends at 11:30am on Friday, July 26, 2019. If your child is enrolled in an afternoon Kindergarten, Camp, or Musical Theater program, there is no charge for Extended Care on this day between 11:30am and 3:15pm. Our "Mary Poppins" Movie Bash wraps up our 5-weeks together. This special end-of-program afternoon concludes at 3:15pm and all students must be picked-up by 3:30pm. Students enrolled in Private Swim Lessons must be picked-up at the end of their lesson at the pool.

    Students enrolled in Private Swim Lessons will not be charged for Extended Care usage before or after Swim Lessons on that day.

    June 17 to 21, 2019 - (during one-week camps) Monday-Friday; any amount of time between 8:00-9:00am and 3:30-5:30pm.

    June 24 to July 26, 2019 - Monday-Friday; There is no charge for any amount of time needed for care between 8:00am until 8:20am. 

    June 24 to July 26, 2019 - Monday thru Friday; any amount of time between 3:30-5:30pm.
     
    July 29 to August 2 and August 5-9, (during one-week camps) Monday-Friday; any amount of time between 8:00-9:00am and 3:30-5:30pm. 

    *August 12 to 16 - there is no extended care for this week of program. 

     
    Policies: 
     
    Extended Care ends at 5:30pm 
    There is a $5.00 per minute fee for all students who are picked up late. Continued late pickups will result in the loss of privileges for the use of Extended Care and can also result in the loss of being able to continue enrollment in our programs. 
    The total number of extended days you believe you will need between June 17 and August 9, MUST be purchased in advance. Additional days may be purchased when needed but must be paid for in advance. 
    In addition, as children may not be left unsupervised on campus, a student will be directed to Extended Care when the child is dropped-off between 8:00am and 8:20am. Students remaining at school after the Dismissal at 3:30pm will be charged the daily rate for Extended Care. 
    During our 5-, 3- and 2-week programs, those children enrolled only in a morning program and remaining after the Dismissal at 11:30am will be taken to the reception area at the front of the school and will be charged the daily rate for Extended Care. 
    Extended Care is not available for students at our 21st Street campus. 

    Students enrolled in Primetime Sports in the afternoon must enroll in Primetime Sports after camps program.
  • Swim, Rise and Splash, grades 1-5

    Swimmers learn to enhance swimming skills while focusing on strength, endurance, health, and fitness. Swimmers have lessons in the pool and participate in out of water activities. Swimmers are tested and grouped according to their skill level.

    Students joining the Camp in the Afternoon or the Musical Theater program will be transitioned by the Aquatics Staff to their program’s meeting area.

  • Water Polo, An Intro to, One-Week, grades 2-7 [NEW]

    This one week half-day program is designed to teach the basic skills and fundamentals of Water Polo in a fun and entertaining atmosphere. Activities include instruction and training in the basic individual fundamentals of water polo as well as position and situational (IE: Offense/Defense) specific training. Additionally studnets participate in fun filled water polo related games.

    Participants are divided into two groups:
    Blue Group: Kids aged 8-10
    Red Group: Kids aged 11-13

    All Participants must be able to swim one pool length (25 yards) front crawl w/ flutter kick, and tread water for 60 seconds.

    Daily Schedule:
    9:00am-9:20am: Drop Off
    9:20am-9:30am: Suit-up/Warm-up
    9:30am-10:30am: Individual Skill training

    Drills focus on: Swimming for water polo, ball handling skills (pass, catch, shoot), Offensive and Defensive positioning, and Position specific training. (Goalie, Defender, Center, Attacker)

    10:30am-11:00am: Snack Break
    11:00am-12:00pm Water Polo Related Games

    Games range from entry level skill games such as 5-Alive and Keep Away, to half-court and full-court scrimmages.

    12:00pm-12:15pm: Pick-up

    Partcipants should attend each session with their own bathing suit and towel. (Girls should wear a one-piece suit.) Goggles are recommended but not required. Campers should bring their own snack. (Please review Crossroads Summer School food policy.)

Private Swim Lessons

  • Swim Lessons - Saturday Private, Age 3 and above

    Private lessons are taught by one of our many American Red Cross certified Water Safety Instructors.  Lessons run for 45 minutes, with approximately 30 minutes devoted to instruction and 15 minutes of structured ‘fun time’. Swimmers are assessed in their first session and lessons cater to meet the needs of the individual swimmer.  Our teaching philosophy includes creating a  learning environment where students improve upon their overall swimming and water safety skills in a fun environment that encourages confidence and enjoyment in the water.

    Students enrolled in Afternoon Camp or Musical Theater Company will be walked to the pool for their lesson. Every effort will be made to schedule your student on an alternate Afternoon Camp swim day. 
     
    Your child may attend Extended Care on their private swim day at no additional charge before or after their lesson until 5:30pm.

  • Swim Team, All levels, grades 1-5

    Join this multi-level level swim team designed to combine stroke refinement with endurance building workouts. Swimmers learn and refine all techniques and skills needed to swim at a beginning competitive ability in a low-key, supportive, and fun atmosphere. Skills include: dives, relay-starts, flip-turns, and finishes with special attention to proper stroke technique. Dry-land activities are included in the instruction. Bring a swim cap, goggles, suit and towel to each practice. Swimmers may bring non-slip flip-flops for the locker room. This program is held at our swim facility at the Norton Campus. Pick-up of students for this class is at our pool.
     
    Swimmers should have an understanding of the four main strokes (freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly) and be able to perform freestyle 10 to 15 yards, backstroke 5 to 10 yards and breaststroke 5 yards. All enrolled students must pass a swim skills test.

    Join in this swim program and build strength and endurance. Three lanes are open for lap swim Monday through Thursday from 6:30 to 8:00am and Tuesday and Thursday from 5:30-6:30pm. Once enrolled, participants for no additional charge can use AM or PM swim times.

  • Pool Accessibility

    Our pool and locker facilities are handicap accessible.
  • Swimmer Information

    Swimmers must provide their own towels, water shoes and goggles. Waterproof sunscreen is also recommended. Swimmers may bring non-slip flip-flops for the locker room. Lockers are available for storage of clothing during each class time.

    Parents are required to be on deck during private lessons on Monday through Friday if their swimmer is not enrolled in the afternoon summer session and always during Saturday private lessons.  Parents are not allowed in the locker rooms at any time.
  • Rentals

    The Crossroads School swimming pool, gym, and soccer field are available to rent. Contact the Auxiliary Services Office at 310-582-4449 for more information.
