Crossroads Board Reaffirms Commitment to Inclusion

As news circulates about possible changes to U.S. immigration policy, Crossroads remains steadfast in its support of all students regardless of their residency status or that of their parents.

The School administration and Board of Trustees share the concerns of community members who are worried about the fate of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.

“In this uncertain time, we will continue providing a safe learning environment for all students regardless of immigration status, race, gender identity and expression, religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation, socio-economic status or physical ability,” Head of School Bob Riddle and Board Chair Bob Friedman said in a joint letter. “Indeed, the diversity of our community is one of the greatest strengths of our remarkable school.”

To that end, the Board recently passed a resolution stating that it “stands united in its continued support of a diverse and inclusive learning environment for all students, families and personnel.”

The Board reaffirmed its commitment to non-discriminatory hiring, admissions and financial aid policies and to “a campus atmosphere that promotes respect and denounces hate speech, bullying, intimidation and harassment, against any and all individuals or group of individuals.”

Crossroads has compiled a list of resources for families who have questions or concerns about immigration issues. In addition, counselors and administrators have been made available to speak with students who are feeling fearful.
