Sports Teams Honored for Academic Success

Seven Crossroads programs recognized by CIF Southern Section.
Even as they pursue excellence in athletics, Crossroads students remain committed to their learning experience in the classroom. And their efforts have not gone unnoticed.

Seven Crossroads varsity programs were recently honored by the CIF Southern Section as 2017 Team Academic Champions, a designation bestowed upon the sports teams in the region with the best academic marks.

The Crossroads baseball; boys golf; girls soccer; girls swimming; boys track and field; and boys and girls tennis teams were recognized for having the highest collective grade-point averages in the section at schools with enrollments of 1,499 students or fewer.

“I am very proud of our student-athletes and teams for their amazing achievements,” Athletic Director Ira Smith says. “It takes an incredible amount of dedication and commitment to excel in the sports arena and the classroom.”

The boys tennis team recorded a team GPA of 3.92, while the girls tennis team posted a 3.91 and the girls swimming team had a collective GPA of 3.90. Four other programs had winning marks in the category: girls soccer (3.86), boys golf (3.81), baseball (3.77) and boys track and field (3.74).

The Roadrunners will be celebrated during an awards ceremony on Tuesday, April 25, at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, where the School will receive championship banners.

“There is no doubt that the student-athletes at Crossroads School are exemplary in their efforts,” Ira says, “and we thank them for representing our community so very well.”
