Crossroads Honored by Independent School Alliance for Minority Affairs
School to receive 2020 Impact Award for building and supporting a diverse student body.
The Independent School Alliance for Minority Affairs, a nonprofit that provides educational access to local independent schools for underrepresented students of color, will honor Crossroads with a 2020 Impact Award at the Skirball Cultural Center. The event, originally scheduled for April 23, has been moved to Sept. 17.
Crossroads is one of the 35-year-old organization’s founding school partners and shares its commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion within independent schools. Head of School Bob Riddle is a current Board member and has served as Board Chair. It is in part due to the School’s strong relationship with the Alliance that, today, 47% of Crossroads students identify as people of color.
In its announcement, the Alliance noted:
Crossroads provides a model on how an access organization and an independent school can partner to make both a notable and noticeable difference in providing opportunity in the lives of students, families and the entire school community. Because of their outreach efforts and partnership, they have become a top destination for many of our students. In addition, the conception and implementation of the Crossroads School Equity & Justice Institute provides one of the more meaningful examples yet of why we are happy to bestow this honor for their contributions to the greater Los Angeles area and, specifically, the Independent School Alliance.
In addition to Crossroads, the Alliance will honor Latham & Watkins LLP, Matt Jackson of Jackson Pictures and Maha Dahkil Jackson of CAA with 2020 Impact Awards.
