Crossroads Students Collect Gold and Silver Keys at Regional Scholastic Art & Writing Awards

Six Upper School students will be considered at the national level.
On Jan. 31, the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers announced the recipients of the 2020 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards in the West Art Region-at-Large, naming seven Crossroads students among the distinguished list. Seniors Elijah Ezralow, Lucien Frank and Lola Hakim; juniors Elena Fis, Claire Sures and Nina Yankovic; and sophomore Emma Raff were each honored with one or more awards.

This year, the Region-at-Large Scholastic Art & Writing Awards received over 55,000 student submissions in 29 categories. Crossroads students submitted works in multiple categories, including film and animation, drawing and illustration, design, photography and art portfolio. A jury comprising hundreds of esteemed educators, artists and authors then assessed originality, technical skill and emergence of a personal voice or vision in the works to determined which received the Gold Key, Silver Key and Honorable Mention Awards.

As recipients of Gold Key Awards, the works by Elijah, Elena, Lucien, Lola, Claire and Nina will now be judged by a national committee and considered for National Medals. Those winners, announced March 16 at artandwriting.org, will be invited to attend a ceremony at Carnegie Hall on June 4.
