2019-20 Equity & Justice Speaker Series to Feature Ibram X. Kendi

Event is part of the Younes and Soraya Nazarian Equity & Justice Distinguished Lecture Series.
Crossroads School will host author and antiracism activist Ibram X. Kendi on Sept. 9 for a special lecture presented by the Crossroads School Equity & Justice Institute’s Younes and Soraya Nazarian Equity & Justice Distinguished Lecture Series.

One of America’s leading antiracist voices and the founding director of the Antiracist Research and Policy Center at American University, Kendi is the acclaimed author of “Stamped from the Beginning: The Definitive History of Racist Ideas in America,” which won the National Book Award for Nonfiction, and “How to Be an Antiracist.”

Kendi’s lecture will kick off a slate of five inspiring and educational speaking engagements throughout the 2019-20 school year, which will also include thought-provoking presentations by Winona LaDuke (Oct. 14), Zenon Neumark (Dec. 17) and Robin DiAngelo (March 4, 2020) as well as an environmental justice symposium (April 22, 2020).

“A vital component of the Equity & Justice Institute’s work is to create safe physical spaces that promote distinct forms of connected learning, participation and disparate community engagement,” says Derric J. Johnson, founding director of the Institute. “Strengthening Crossroads School’s position as a nexus of social justice education, the Younes and Soraya Nazarian Equity & Justice Distinguished Lecture Series is an integral programmatic element of the Institute’s efforts to address pressing societal issues.”

These free events are open to the public and will each be held at 7 p.m. in the Crossroads gym on the Norton Campus (1634 18th St., Santa Monica). For more information, visit www.xrds.org/equityandjustice.
