YOUR INFORMATION
RECESS VOLUNTEER DETAILS
Please know that we truly NEED your help at recess. Please sign up only if you can fully commit to the schedule and responsibilities. If not, don't worry; there will be plenty of other opportunities for you.

We divide the parent volunteers into "cohorts" of ten parents. Each parent will be assigned to specific dates to help out at recess, once every four or five weeks. If a parent cannot make it on the assigned date, then s/he will contact another parent in the cohort. It will be the responsibility of the cohort to make sure that all their cohort dates are covered. Each cohort will be formed based on the day of the week that members can work. For example, there will be a cohort of ten people who can all work on Monday.

  1. Shifts are about an hour and 40 minutes (11:40 a.m. - 1:25 p.m.). If you cannot cover the entire time slot, please don't sign up. WE NEED YOU TO BE ON TIME. If you are late, often times the “busy” time of the shift is over. Your shift begins 5 minutes before the first lunch and ends 10 minutes after the last recess in order to help set up and then to put things away.

  2. We will have only 2 volunteers on each day so covering the shift is essential.

  3. Each person will have one shift every four-five weeks.

  4. This volunteer opportunity is not able to accommodate special schedules and needs. We'll need to know that you can volunteer on a particular day every four weeks. Again, if you cannot commit to that or feel that you will need to request frequent subs, then please don't worry about it and know that there will be plenty of other opportunities to volunteer.

  5. We will assign people on a first-come, first-served basis. If you sign up and all the cohorts are filled, we will happily put you on a substitute schedule for particular days.

  6. We will offer a cohort group training session to give volunteers an opportunity to meet their cohort, review the Recess Volunteer Parent Handbook, and ask questions, so they can understand their role and the rules to the various games children will have available to them during recess.

Our trusty Recess coordinator, Sydney Meller, is ready and willing to do the awesome task of scheduling everyone. Just indicate the day(s) you wish to work below, and she'll organize the rest.
