First Day of Student Curated Show - "Social Icing"

    Sam Francis Gallery

First Day STUDENT-CURATED SHOW: “Social Icing”

    Tuesday, February 19, 2019

Social Icing opens conversation between the creator and consumer. Through strong†graphics configuration and powerful voices, the pieces exhibited in Social Icing speak to the viewer. By bringing awareness to social issues and societal constraints, with an inviting psychological environment,  a new dialect evolves in order to properly communicate. The work in this show speaks to the community above the individual while rewarding each person’s diligence through the “Icing” of the work’s glamor.

This exhibition is organized by Crossroads students enrolled in the Art Gallery Curatorial Project course and includes work by Los Angeles artists.

    Gallery Hours:
    Monday-Friday // 10 a.m.-4 p.m

    CROSSROADS DRAMA CONSERVATORY PRESENTS

    "SPRING AWAKENING"

    Friday, Feb. 22, 2019
    Saturday, Feb. 23, 2019
    Friday, March 1, 2019
    Saturday, March 2, 2019

All shows will be staged at 7:30 p.m. in the Crossroads Theatre.

It’s 1891, and grown-ups hold all the cards. Headstrong Melchior and naive Wendla stumble into each other’s arms, passionate and curious, while anxious Moritz struggles to live up to the stringent expectations of society. Hanschen and Ernst step outside the rules of a “normal” relationship; Martha conforms to her parents’ wishes but cannot keep their secret. With only each other for guidance, these young men and women travel the fraught and rocky path of adolescence, discovering their bodies, their minds and themselves along the way.

Based on Frank Wedekind’s groundbreaking and controversial play, “Spring Awakening: A Children’s Tragedy” (once banned in Germany), Steven Sater and Duncan Sheik’s brilliant rock score and searingly emotional book take this story of sexual awakening, youth revolt and self-discovery into a new century. In 2007, “Spring Awakening” was the winner of eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical and Best Original Score.

Note: Due to the show’s mature content (suicide, abortion, extra-marital relationships, sexuality and domestic violence), parental discretion is advised.

Tickets will be available three weeks before opening night.
    Ticket pricing: General Admission: $11 // Students: $9 // Seniors 65+: $9
