• Crossroads
At Crossroads Elementary School, children begin their educational journey developing a life-long love of learning, self-discovery, and sense of responsibility for the world in which they live. The foundation of their learning rests within the strong relationships and partnerships we develop with students and with families. Students feel seen and heard, and children are kind, compassionate, and supportive of their peers.

Our school is a vibrant learning environment, buzzing with curiosity, exploration, and discovery!

Applying to Kindergarten

Kindergarten Admissions mirrors the relationship-based nature of our school. We want to fully understand your family and we hope to achieve a philosophical fit so that what happens at school is an extension of what happens at home. Please read on to understand the key components of our admissions process.

  • Creating a Kindergarten Class

    • While the Kindergarten program can accommodate a reasonable range of students cognitively, the children should be socially/emotionally mature, ready to thrive in a big, busy program, with lots of transitions and personalities beyond the classroom teachers.
    • Admissions professionals, Elementary School Administrators and Faculty members comprise the Admissions committee that closely reads and reviews each child’s file to fully understand that child’s strengths, challenges and readiness for our program and the philosophical fit of the family and school.
    • Each child that completes the process receives full and thorough consideration.
    • In creating a class, we adhere to one of the principles of our mission statement: to create a diverse community, racially, ethnically, geographically, socio-economically, with varying family structures, religious beliefs, etc.
    • While we give preference to sibling, employee and legacy families, we can make no guarantees and the average numbers of new families are consistently 40% of the class.
  • Getting to Know Us

    • Through an immersive tour during the school day, learn from students, teachers and administrators about curriculum and programs, witness students in action, and receive first-hand perspectives from current parents and experience the spirit of the school.
    • Through an in-depth parent/guardian interview to learn about you with space for delving deeper into questions and thoughts that arose during your search and/or the tour.
    • Through other coffees, information nights, arts and athletic events, and our Kindergarten Family Fun Day.
  • Getting to Know You

    • Through sharing a photo of your family so we can recognize you immediately and connect to you in a meaningful way.
    • Through your Parent/Guardian Statement which gives us insight into the uniqueness of your family and your child.
    • Through the parent/guardian interview, where you as the experts on your child, give us specific, invaluable insights into what makes your child “tick”;  and share who this multifaceted, special, human being is, and how they maneuver through life.
    • Through a comprehensive, Common Preschool Evaluation Form and Crossroads Addendum, filled out by your child’s teachers, who are experts on their day to day development in a learning environment.
  • Our Philosophy on Formal Assessments or Visits

    • Our developmental philosophy, backed by the most current educational research, tells us that assessing a child for readiness in October to enter Kindergarten the following September does not accurately capture the child’s development in the intervening months. The Preschool Evaluation Form provides the most current and comprehensive assessment of a child’s development and readiness.
    • The essential and invaluable information and insights we receive from you, as the experts on your child’s day to day life and behavior, and your child’s teachers, the other experts over time on your child’s cognitive and social/emotional development and readiness provides more specific and timely insights regarding your child.
