CLASSICAL CONCERTS
Crossroads proudly offers a wide variety of music performances by our gifted Music Major students. Throughout the year at Crossroads, four concerts are presented by the premiere string ensemble, Crossroads Chamber Orchestra, which has three CDs to their credit, in addition to two chamber music concerts and monthly solo recitals featuring our jazz and classical musicians. Our younger instrumental players perform in ensembles for family and friends in public performances toward the end of the year.
DANCE PERFORMANCES
The Dance Company presents two on-campus shows each year--a concert including dancers from the upper school classes, and a student choreography showcase. Guest artists contribute choreography and often join in presenting pieces of their own. The Company also travels to local schools to present workshops and short performances.
DRAMA PERFORMANCES
Crossroads Theater hosts eight to ten different performances each school year, with two or three others presented in our Crossroads Community Room or one of the dance studios. Drama Conservatory students perform at least three times each year in varying formats, including musical theater, contemporary play productions, classical theater, improvisational theater and an annual "senior play." Separate "all-school productions" are presented by Upper School students not in the Conservatory and include performances by Crossroads Touring Company, which also travels to institutions in the San Francisco Bay area. Middle School Players present one to two plays per year.
JAZZ CONCERTS
If you are a jazz aficionado, Crossroads is the place! The Upper School boasts three highly accomplished jazz groups performing seven public performances on- and occasionally off-campus, and the four Middle School ensembles join in three or four times a year . Outside venues for public performances often include the Jazz Bakery, Catalina's Bar and Grill, Rusty's on the Pier, and Disneyland. The jazz program has released four CDs.
SAM FRANCIS GALLERY
Sam Francis Gallery, a prime space for exhibiting artists, hosts at least eight shows throughout the school year. Art events for a year may include a faculty show, exhibits by Upper School Art Majors, Middle School, Elementary School and Upper School artists, and shows by various visiting artists, who often present workshops (open to the public) for our students. An exhibit schedule of our events is also listed monthly in Artscene.
VOCAL CONCERTS
Crossroads' choral program offers performances by our Middle School chorus, "The Overtones," and by our Upper School "21st Street Singers." These groups perform a wide range of musical styles, with a vocal jazz emphasis in the Upper School ensemble. Both groups perform in a variety of venues for the greater community; the 21st Street Singers recently joined a 300 voice chorus to perform works by Morton Lauridson at Royce Hall under the direction of Grant Gershon (conductor of the L.A. Master Chorale), with Mr. Lauridson at the piano; they have made two CDs, and The Overtones recently recorded a world premiere choral work for children. Additionally, there are several solo vocal concerts throughout the year featuring all of our vocal performers.
