 | THE COMMUNITY YOUTH ORCHESTRA INVITES STUDENTS ages 10-18 to play in a chamber orchestra where student musicians play masterworks from the orchestral repertoire. With an emphasis on ensemble playing, phrasing, listening to others and learning to blend with the section and the orchestra as a whole; students are introduced to beloved orchestral works from the classical era to the 20th century.
SPECIAL HIGHLIGHTS: • Guest coaches will visit throughout the year to work with our musicians. • Opportunities to perform solo works or concertos. • New SmartMusic online software will be used to provide a fun, interactive practice aid for members.
Students must have a minimum of two years of instruction on their orchestral instruments, be comfortable sight-reading music, and be recommended by their teacher. It is strongly suggested that each student also participates in a music ensemble at his or her own school.
Each student will be required to prepare a brief musical interview at our first meeting for placement purposes. The student will play a solo piece of their choice, one major and one minor scale (two octaves), and a short sight-reading excerpt.
