Crossroads Kicks Off 2016-17 School Year With Convocation

Head of School, student body presidents address the community.
Friday morning, Middle and Upper Schoolers, faculty and staff gathered on the 21st Street basketball court for the annual convocation, a time for the community to set the tone for the school year ahead, said Head of School Bob Riddle.

There are 862 Middle and Upper School students who learn on the 21st Street Campus this year, and Bob encouraged them to focus on what they want to accomplish and who they want to be by June.

“It’s my wish that, as you—as we—fill our campus this year with joy, with kindness, with caring, and with music, love and pride, that you do so with the knowledge that you are helping to make our world a better place for all of its people,” Bob said.

Student body presidents Noah Kennedy and Max Kopelow addressed their peers and implored them to make the most of their year.

“We have a tip for every single one of you: Don’t start each year just hoping to get through it as quickly as possible,” 12th-grader Max said. “We want you to relax, take your time and enjoy every day, every moment, every assembly—everything.”

Max and Noah also emphasized the importance of creating an inclusive environment for all students, and said that it’s the seniors, the Class of 2017, who should lead by example.
