Crossroads Named CIF Academic Team Champions

Two athletic teams earn accolades for their stellar GPAs this school year.
Not only do the girls varsity tennis and boys varsity swim teams excel on the court and in the pool, respectively, they excel in the classroom as well.

This week, the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) named both squads State Academic Team Champions for the 2015-16 school year, along with 30 other teams across the state, for having the highest grade point averages in their sport. The girls tennis team earned a 3.93 GPA and boys swimming maintained a 3.81 GPA.

“This prestigious accomplishment is a testament to the exemplary efforts put forth by our student-athletes,” said Athletics Director Ira Smith. “We are very proud of their achievement as it represents the absolute best of Crossroads School, the athletics department and high school athletics in the state of California.”

Crossroads’ teams will receive banners, which will be hung in the school gym, to recognize this accomplishment.

Since 1996, the CIF State Academic Team Champions program has rewarded teams with the highest collective grade point averages, based on an unweighted 4.0 scale, in their respective sport.

The Southern Section, which includes Crossroads, had the most teams represented with 15 out of 32. The School was one of four to have two squads achieve a state-high GPA.
