Student-Athletes Earn Top Academic Honors

Teams Win CIF Southern Section-Ford Academic Awards
Three Crossroads Upper School athletic teams have earned first place CIF Southern Section-Ford Academic Awards: girls swimming and diving, girls track and field, and boys tennis. Among the 1,787 teams that entered this year, 44 teams won, representing 25 different schools. The winning teams were honored on April 22 at Angel Stadium.

Ten other Crossroads teams placed within the top four: boys baseball; girls cross country; boys golf; boys soccer; girls soccer; girls tennis; boys swimming and diving; boys track and field; girls volleyball; and boys volleyball.

Winning schools select one female and one male student-athlete to receive an Individual Academic Award. This year, soccer player Isabel Rosenstein ’15 and soccer/tennis player Lucas Kirby ’15 were honored for their outstanding academic achievements. “Crossroads athletics are all about the team,” explains Isabel. “Whether a team sleepover or running sprints, winning or losing, we did it together. Our success came from how close we became—we worked together and for each other.”

The CIF Southern Section-Ford Academic Awards are given out in 22 sports. To compete, teams must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 in college-prep courses in the first semester of the 2014-15 school year. Crossroads competed among schools with fewer than 1500 high school students; schools with 1500 high school students or more compete separately.
