Senior Wins Gates Millennium Scholarship Award

Andrew Jimenez to attend Case Western Reserve University
Senior Andrew Jimenez is one of just 1,000 students nationally to be named a 2015 Gates Millennium Scholar. The winners were selected out of a pool of 52,000 applicants for their “stellar academic achievement, adept leadership skills and commitment to community service.” Andrew will use the scholarship to attend Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, where he plans to major in mechanical engineering. He may also be eligible to use the scholarship to pursue master’s and doctoral degrees in this field.

“Before this scholarship, I wasnt really considering graduate school,” Andrew says. “I figured Id be done with applying for financial aid and looking for scholarships in the next four years. But now, Im 100 percent positive that I will go.”

The Gates Millennium Scholarship is funded by a grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. It is open to high-achieving students who are African-American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian American/Pacific Islander or Hispanic American.
