Birthday Celebration Benefits Crossroads

Nat Trives’ 80th birthday party focuses on community.
Crossroads trustee Nat Trives rang in his 80th birthday with a “celebration of community” on Tuesday, Dec. 9. Nat’s party took place at the Santa Monica Pier and benefited more than two dozen nonprofits and other organizations, including Crossroads School.

Nat joined the Crossroads board in 1974 and is our longest serving trustee. He was board chair for 11 years and is currently the executive vice chair. Nat and his wife, Ida, are the grandparents of two Crossroads students, first-grader Tanner and fourth-grader Tristan.

During the party, the pier’s Pacific Park was closed to the public; ticket-buyers had the park to themselves to enjoy rides, arcade games, live music and a buffet picnic dinner. One hundred percent of attendees’ entry fees were donated to the organization chosen from Nat’s list.

Prior to the party, Nat explained his vision this way: “I would like to bring the community together to celebrate our collective hard work and good will, to enjoy each other and our families and to raise money for the charities I’ve supported all my life. I believe strongly about building a vibrant, caring, and just community, and in recruiting others to that cause one person at a time, one family at a time. To share my birthday with the community and help organizations that are doing such good work will be so very satisfying.”
