Fun for All at the 29th Annual Alley Party

Crossroads community celebrates while giving back.
Nearly 2,000 members of the Crossroads family came to the 21st Street campus Sept. 28 for the annual Alley Party celebration. Reflecting this year’s theme of “street art,” party-goers happily stenciled on cardboard, drew “graffiti” on a wall mural and specially constructed set of doors and decorated flip-flops. Other attractions included glitter tattoos, sand art, a Lego vehicle-building station and race tracks, two rock-climbing walls, an inflatable obstacle course and giant slide, balloon creations and carnival games. Over 250 volunteers donated their time and talents to this year’s Alley Party.

At a booth for the new Science Education & Research Facility, which will open in the summer of 2015, attendees could handle the ancient rocks and fossils that will be embedded in the building. They also had the opportunity to view the construction site and learn more about the 25,000-square-foot facility that will house the Middle and Upper School science programs.

Throughout the day, attendees were treated to musical performances by students on the outdoor bandstand. Food was provided by eateries including Earlez Grille, Santa Monica Pizza Kitchen Rosti and The Counter. Cryo-Pops and Krispy Kreme doughnuts joined a seemingly endless supply of homemade desserts prepared by 100 Crossroads bakers. Caffe Luxxe coffees and teas, Pressed Juicery and fruit kabobs by Freshlunches rounded out the fare.

Attendees were asked to bring art supplies to donate to Saint Anne School and did not disappoint, filling 20 boxes with colored pencils, construction paper and many other resources for our neighbor school. Crossroads’ donations help support the school’s art program throughout the year.

Instead of winning carnival game prizes, children won crayons that they could use to decorate an art mural. The $600 budgeted for prizes was donated to the
Ocean Park Community Center (OPCC).
