Summer Program Students Honor a Jazz Legend

Students learn about the late Charlie Haden, former Crossroads teacher.
The 29 students in Crossroads’ Summer Program Jazz Workshop spent a week recently learning about the late jazz bassist and former Crossroads faculty member Charlie Haden. The Grammy Award-winning musician died on July 11 at age 76. He taught jazz at the School between 1983 and 1984 and was also a Crossroads parent of four alumni.

Students learned about Charlie’s rise to prominence during the 1960s, as well as his impact on the world of jazz and on other musicians. Songs that Charlie made famous or that he wrote were incorporated into the three classes’ weekly repertoire of music.
