Water Week Starts with a Splash at Elementary School

The Elementary School kicked off Water Week with two guest-speakers and a musical performance by the Children's Chorus, all aimed at teaching the importance of water conservation.
The Elementary School kicked off the start of Water Week April 14 with a presentation by Philippe Cousteau, the grandson of famed marine conservationist Jacques Cousteau. Philippe spoke to students about the importance of conserving water and how his grandfather’s dedication to preserving the environment inspired him to do the same. In 2000, Philippe and his sister, Alexandra, founded EarthEcho International, a nonprofit organization that aims to inspire and engage young people to be leaders in environmental change.

At the Monday Morning Meeting earlier that day, students also heard from senior Hanna Baldecchi, who informed them about her independent study science project, which involves gathering and studying slime-like substances that grow on trash that has been in the ocean for long periods of time.

At the meeting, students wore their custom-designed Water Week T-shirts, which were designed by third-graders Jackson Ortiz and Lux Einstein. The Crossroads Children’s Chorus also performed an original song called, “Water,” at the meeting, which emphasized the importance of keeping water usage to a minimum.
